No doubt about it. Our lives all changed ten years ago today.

We all remember where we were, what we were doing and that sick feeling in the pits of our collective stomachs when we saw the events unfold at the towers in New York City, the Pentagon and the field in Pennsylvania. Many lives were lost. Many more rose to the occasion of helping find any survivors.

We remember you all.

Of the many responders, trained teams of canines and their handlers rushed to all these sites to aid in the rescue and then the recovery and therapy of the thousands affected by these horrific events a decade ago. In all, there were approximately 300 dogs who searched the rubble that had been the World Trade Centers.

Thirteen of those dogs are still with us today. I have been fortunate enough to know two of them...Kaiser, an Indianapolis resident and his brother, Max who passed away in November, 2010 at the age of 15.

So while we salute all those who helped search, rescue and comfort, we pause today and also remember the dogs of 9/11. Thank you for your service and dedication to your craft.
